Insignia TV Won’t Turn On (Troubleshooting & Simple Fixes)

Your Insignia TV may not be turning on for the following reasons:

  • Power shortfalls
  • Minor glitches
  • Signal interference
  • Hardware failures

While it’s annoying that your Insignia TV won’t turn on, it’s not the end of the world – keep a cool head and we’ll walk you through the entire troubleshooting process.

Troubleshooting an Insignia TV That Won’t Turn On

Basic Troubleshooting Steps

Inspect the Power Cord and Plug

Start by examining your power cord and plug. Ensure that the connection is secure between the TV and power outlet.

Look for any damage or fraying in the cord itself, as well as any loose connections or bent pins in the plug. Replace the cord if necessary – don’t try to fix it yourself!

Perform a Power Cycle

Power Cycle Your TV

A power cycle can often resolve minor issues with your Insignia TV.

Follow these steps to perform a power cycle:

  1. Unplug the TV from the power source and wait for at least 60 seconds.
  2. While waiting, press and hold the power button on the TV (not the remote) for 30 seconds.
  3. This will drain any residual power and initiate a soft reset.
  4. After the waiting period, plug the TV back in and attempt to turn it on using the power button on the TV or the remote.

If these basic troubleshooting steps do not resolve the issue, consider seeking professional help or exploring further solutions.

Investigating Input Responsiveness

Sometimes, your Insignia TV not turning on may not be an issue with the TV, but other tools unable to get the critical commands delivered to it.

Check for Remote Signal Interference

Sometimes, interference from other electronic devices can affect your remote’s signal. Make sure there are no other electronic devices, such as a router or a microwave, placed too close to your Insignia TV.

If you suspect interference, try moving other devices away or at least turn them off temporarily to see if it resolves or at least mitigates the issue.

Reset the Remote Control

If your Insignia TV remote is not working, there could be an issue with the remote itself. To troubleshoot this, try resetting the remote control:

  1. Remove the batteries from the remote.
  2. Press and hold down the power button on the remote for 30 seconds.
  3. Release the power button and insert new batteries.
  4. Try using the remote to turn on the TV again.

Test TV Button Functionality

If your Insignia TV is still not turning on after trying the steps above, try testing out your TV’s power button directly. Should your Insignia TV fail to turn on, there’s a good chance the problem could be with your TV’s internal components.

Handling Hardware Failures

Explaining Absence of Indicator Light

One of the key signs of hardware problems on an Insignia TV (or any TV, for that matter) is the absence of indicator light.

TVs use multiple light colors to convey different information to the user, and it outright not displaying any light means that it’s not receiving power.

Try testing a different device with your TV’s current outlet to check if its supplying sufficient power. If the device in question can power up, it’s not a good sign – it means your TV has an internal issue that can’t be addressed quickly.
